Kibera Door-to-Door Collection Tour with the Environmental Justice Communities Against Plastic
Plastic pollution is a growing crisis impacting the environment, human health, climate, and communities across the globe. For years, there has been a clear demand for action as numerous studies demonstrate that plastics can be found in our ecosystems, the atmosphere, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Community and Indigenous leaders, frontline workers, and advocates have long fought for actions to address the plastic crisis throughout its lifecycle.
While the Global Plastic Treaty is an opportunity to negotiate a legally binding international agreement that could change the world, many frontline workers and community members have been at the forefront of providing solutions to keep their communities clean and healthy.
During INC-3, the Environmental Justice Communities Against Plastic (EJCAP) coalition witnessed firsthand how vital the role of waste pickers is in the global plastic waste management system. Thanks to the International Alliance of Waste Pickers, EJCAP participated in a Door-to-Door Waste Collection Tour with the Nairobi and Kenya Waste Pickers to learn and support the priorities of frontline communities and workers in the Plastic Treaty.
