A Call for an Immediate and Permanent Ceasefire to the Violence Israel and Gaza
The humanitarian crisis unfolding in Israel and Palestine has reached terrifying heights, with the dwindling of critical resources and the death toll rising. Physicians for Social Responsibility- LA (PSR-LA) joins the American Public Health Association (APHA) in calling all parties directly and indirectly involved in the violence in Israel and Gaza and its consequences to immediately:
End the violence through an immediate and permanent ceasefire
Free all hostages;
Protect all healthcare workers and healthcare facilities;
Ensure that humanitarian assistance is promptly provided; and
Begin to build sustainable peace by ensuring human rights and justice for all.
As advocates for health and well-being, we are deeply concerned over the threats posed to the health and lives of civilians caught in the crossfire. The consequences of war are horrific - countless lives lost, terrible violence, communities destroyed, and children affected. Adding to this horror is the very real potential of dropping an atomic weapon, devastating our lives, our climate, and our world.
Incomprehensible loss of life and devastation is occurring in both the Gaza Strip and Israel. Thousands of individuals have lost their lives, suffered injuries, been displaced, and many are still held captive. We join the call for an immediate and permanent end to the violence and prioritize human rights and justice. To that end, PSR-LA remains committed to our work to protect human life from the gravest threats to health and survival, including nuclear weapons.
